Day 1: Master Watercolor Painting

In this studio session, she will help each individual artist grow towards their style, pointing out what parts are important in a piece while still letting them create their signature mark.

She will work with one instructional piece for all to try and then each person should work from their own photograph as reference. Choose a photo with strong lights and darks or one that shows movement in a person, a flowing skirt, waves water, a bird in the sky slow motion. We will spend an hour on the instructional piece. Then we will work on our own. Work at your own pace and she will walk around and help the individuals that need it. We’ll focus on painting faces, water, group of people and much more.

Day 2: Master Acrylic Painting

Same as above but in acrylic.

Supplies: Painters need to bring their own supplies and a supply list will be provided. If needed, painters may use my paints, paper, brushes and palette for $5/class, but still need to bring the rest of the supplies themselves.

Lyudmila will give a quick demo and paint together with the students step by step into creating a quick abstract watercolor painting using basic shapes to loosen up.

Painting figures – Brief overview of basic drawing principles – 3hr

In this workshop students will be amazed with the outcome of their paintings. Lyudmila will share her knowledge and techniques of how to create realistic and expressive figures in watercolor. She will start with a quick demonstration of painting a figure followed by individual instruction and a step-by-step through the painting process. With the skills learned in this class you’ll be able to add another dimension into your paintings. You will first start by painting a few quick gesture poses so you can loosen up and get comfortable with the medium, after which you’ll paint a longer pose with a more involved approach for the final painting. The last hour of the workshop will be dedicated to critique, questions and comments. The wonderful thing about this workshop is the confidence you’ll gain and encouragement to use your own approach while sticking to the fundamentals of watercolor painting. Beginners are welcome and are encouraged not to be afraid, but knowledge of watercolor is helpful.

Day 2: Painting figures continues

Tying it all together to make a painting look complete, learn how to keep your painting fresh and spontaneous. Paint from a choice of reference in creating your final masterpiece. Working with skin tones, use of light and shadow and painting clothes. Capturing the mood and expression of the human face and body. Short critique and discussion.

Our watercolor workshop on Dec 15, 2015 was a great success! It was my great pleasure to share my watercolor knowledge yesterday and inspire artists to be bolder and more confident with the medium. I noticed how everyone progressed greatly with every painting coming up with some pretty remarkable paintings towards the end, full of energy and spontaneity. I’ll be posting many nice pictures and have a lot more to say about this great event!!! I’d like to thank everyone for attending and working so hard during the 5hr of practice. We’ll do this again maybe in a couple of months after the holidays!
